Woa!
I wanted to recommend this book because it is so valuable to the Rebetika tradition of Greece and thereby to the preservation of an old Blues style of trance music similar to Flamenco and Cheikat. But holy cow! Do you see the price tag on the only one left on Amazon?! Look around if you can and see if you can find this book somewhere for less. I don't remember what I paid for it but I know it wasn't $250! This book is a translation from the original Greek work by Elias Petropoulos. Petropoulos himself is one of the most prolific writers on the subject of Rebetika culture with over 200 separate articles and books. Rebetika is important because it is the product of the Aegean displacement of ethnic Greeks and others from Coastal Turkey which directly led to the creation of a musical style that combines many ethnicities of the Middle East and Mediterranean. As a dancer I find this significant in my studies of folk dances from Turkey and Greece. As a trance artist I find this significant because the techniques that this musical styling employ are so very similar to other trance techniques of music found throughout the Mediterranean at other time periods.
