Short and Sweet
I wish that I had read this book earlier on in my studies because it makes for a fabulous primer to some of the other books that I ended up reading well before I got to this one. This book is very brief, you can probably knock it out in a single afternoon if you clear a bit of time. It isn't too mentally challenging but it provides an excellent introduction to the terms and habits of dance at various time periods in Ancient Greece. I enjoy this because it does not simply lump all of Ancient Greece together into one pile, Lawler begins with the Mycenean Age and proceeds to the early Byzantine Age. In chonological order! Wow! This little book should be the first on your list when it comes to reading about Hellenic and Pre-Hellenic dance culture in that region. The price tage looks to be more than reasonable on Amazon as well.

Fantastic primer to Classical Dance Studies! - Poisoned , posted 12/22/08
