Traveling Spirit Masters by Deborah Kapchan
This is an extremely pleasant and informative read on Moroccan trance culture. Kapchan has a bibliography that is so long and beautiful that it brings a tear to my eyes. In comparison to Boddy's "Wombs and Alien Spirits," (a treatment on Zar in the Sudan) Traveling Spirit Masters is much easier to read though still thought provoking. I found myself scribbling pages of personal thoughts into a diary as I read each paragraph. This book give the reader much to consider and greatly furthers the study of Moroccan and even, from my perspective, Mediterranean trance.

A MUST READ for those interested in studying the subject of Ecstatic ritual. - Poisoned , posted 12/22/08
