Best Vietnamese on the East Coast...seriously! (Valentine's Day Review)
Story: OK, so there was once a normal everyday (perhaps, slightly well-known) econ prof (dudious maximus) from Charlottesville and an extremely talented Vietnamese chef (babious majora) from Paris. Econ prof travels to Paris to attend conference. Econ prof decides to have dinner one day at Vietnamese chef's secret hot-spot restaurant located at Place d'Italie (spelling error here...oops) in Paris. Econ chef waits three hours for a seat...friend assures him that it's worth the wait. After dinner, the econ prof. comments that he just enjoyed the most delicious meal of his life (this is a guy that was born and raised in NYC, mind you). In comes Vietnamese chef. Vietnamese chef to Econ prof: "Sorry for the wait...How was your meal???" The econ prof then parlays his extreme satisfaction and asks the chef, "Is it always so busy here? Why doesn't your restaurant take reservations?" The chef then answers that her restaurant is always busy during the evenings and lunch hours...in regards to the reservations question: "We don't take reservations, because that would take away the adventure of getting a seat!!!" She then continues to express her elation for the restaurant's success, yet she's always had a greater desire to move away from the hustle and bustle of Paris and open a restaurant that would serve vietnamese cuisine w/a French twist...econ prof. then exclaims that charlottesville would be ideal for her! Very laid back and with only one vietnamese restaurant (an extremely sub-par one to put things lightly), she could surely find happiness in Charlottesville. Econ prof and Vietnamese chef then fall in love...and the rest is history:D
Yes, there are happy endings:D
Review of White Orchid: After growing up and living in Seattle through my college years, after travelling throughout California (SF, Planet LA, etc.) and most of the west coast, and after living in Europe for a year, I can honestly say that I've never had better vietnamese food in my life! Perhaps it could be the style in which the cuisine was prepared, you say??? Yes...maybe. The Vietnamese chef was trained at the famous "Le Cordon Bleu" Culinary Institute in Paris. She received two degrees: one in patisserie and one in cuisine. After apprenticing and saving some dough, she opened her own restaurant in Paris, "Pivoine", which achieved great success for five long years. Now, Charlottesville is lucky enough to have a White Orchid in its' garden. If you're ever in the area, drop on by and try some vietnamese cuisine with a french twist!:D
P.S. - She still doesn't take reservations!;D - Unsubscribed , posted 02/14/06
