Women's Medicine by Ahmed Al-Safi and Sayyid Hurreiz
This is a semi hard to find book so if you can grab it then I recommend that you do because I don't see another edition forthcoming. This is one of the earlier compilations to seriously treat the study of women's rituals in Africa and surrounding areas. Specifially of interest to me, and possibly to you, were the articles on the history of Zar in Egypt, its ethnomedical origins, possession cults in Tunisia and Zar in Kuwait. The reading is fairly standard and I'm not all that fond of I. M. Lewis's other works but fortuneately he only supplied the editing here which I think is the best place for his particular expertise. The rest of the contributing authors are mostly natives of the countries they discuss which is especially insightful.

Get a copy if you can find one. This one will always be worth while. - Poisoned , posted 12/22/08
